The Carnival Chronicles

GAH, I’m so tired. Like, so so so SO tired.

Like I said in my last post, I went to Notting Hill Carnival today.

IT. WAS. AMAZING! Okay, fangirling over.

I’m almost too tired to recount what happened but, because I want to remember this, I might as well.

So we got there, and we met up with my aunt and my cousin. Before that, we’d walked through streets and been blasted with the sound of SO MANY WHISTLES, and drums, and horns. People were whooping and according to Odd, there were so many awesome costumes.

When we met up with the relatives, we ate this chicken thing which was insanely nice, and then mooched around for a bit.

At one point, this person offered my aunt weed and she was in hysterics for about 5 minutes. Well’ so was I, but there ya go; I’m just so immature.

The main highlight was when we watched the parade. We stood in one place, whilst lorries went by.

And oh my god, it was so loud. People followed the lorries in absurd and fucking awesome costumes; they had feathers in their hairs and huge headdresses and golden dresses and skirts. Music was blasted from the lorries.

When I say blasted, I do mean blasted. You could feel it thrumming through your chest and when you lifted your foot up, you could feel the vibrations. People were yelling and there were people on the first floor of their houses, sitting near their windows, and the atmosphere just built up and up and up and I just felt like I was part of something.

Even when we went to leave, we passed wagons that played even louder music, and got pictures with people (and my smile was REAL, which is so odd because I find it difficult to smile for pictures).

It was loud enough that I had to shout to be heard, and everything was vibrant enough that even if I wasn’t dancing or shouting, I could forget everything.

There was a lot of weed, though. I think I yelled “I SMELL WEED!” or “AAAAARGHHHH, THERE’s WEED!” or ANY variation of that at least 50 times throughout the day, and I’m not even exaggerating.

I got a picture with some policemen, too, which was brilliant.

I’m so tired, but it was bloody worth it. I want to sleep, but I just had one of the most awesome days I’ve had this year. I can add that to my list of things that I loved.

I just hope Odd enjoyed herself. I’m glad she was the one who I brought.

What have you guys done today?
